A Kingdom Man Seeks Priceless Treasure

Tony Evans 42

Men, you have a choice. Jesus speaks of a treasure: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field,” He said (Matthew 13:44). It’s a treasure for which absolutely nothing should stand in the way.

In eschato- logical terms, the kingdom refers to the millennial reign of Christ when He will return to run earth from Jerusa- lem for His thousand-year reign.

A Kingdom Man Seeks Priceless Treasure. Daily Devotional by Tony Evans

The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field . . . —Jesus (Matthew 13:44)

One of my favorite Indiana Jones movies is about the search for the Holy Grail. In the movie’s climactic mo- ment, the famed archaeologist is in the Grail chamber with an ancient guardian knight.

Indy stands in the candlelit room, looking at the shelves filled with dozens of cups and chalices. One of the goblets is the legendary Holy Grail, the cup of Christ said to possess ultimate power. Jones must select the right one or he and his father will die.

“You must choose, but choose wisely,” says the guard- ian knight. “For while the true Grail will bring you life, the false Grail will take it from you.”

Even if you’ve never seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you know what happens: Indy always uncovers the treasure.

Yet in the here and now, the kingdom has also been set up for us through kingdom principles, covenants, responsibilities, privileges, rights, rules, ethics, coverings, and authority. This is a priceless treasure, one worth everything you have.

Choose wisely.
Application

1. Who is your favorite movie character? What about him inspires you?
2. How would your current life play out on the big screen?
3. What treasure will you fight for today? How?

Prayer
God, give me a vision of Your kingdom and the strength to pursue it like a treasure hunter. Amen.

knowing we have such an intimate relationship with God should lead us to respond with prayer, listening to his Word, and obedience.

Rooted in Love

Yechiel Eckstein
Christians and Jews differ on many points of theology, but we share this powerful bond—that we are called into an intimate, mutual, and loving relationship with God that requires us to seek his face daily in prayer, listen to his voice by studying his Word, and obey him.
If you don’t know who god is, humanity’s problem, or the promise god has made, the coming of Christ will seem like nothing more than a sentimental story.

Prologue: Raising the Curtain

Colin S. Smith and Tim Augustyn
You hear that he is the Son of God, but you don’t know who god is. You hear that he will save his people, but you don’t know who his people are or what they need saving from! That is the position many people are in today.
When we try to go through life without God’s Word, it can feel a bit like walking down that dark, deserted country road.

A Light Our Path

Taylor Bennett
If you feel like you’ve been walking in the dark lately, turn to the Lord and dig into the Bible. Not only will you find God’s encouragement and truth on every page, but you’ll also.
Each of us has a primary love language; one of the five speaks to us more profoundly than the other four.

Communicating Love

Gary Chapman
Seldom do a husband and wife have the same love language. We tend to speak our own language, and as a result, we completely miss each other. Oh, we’re sincere. We’re even expressing love, but we’re not connecting emotionally.
