DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Triumphs of Faith

D.L. Moody 21

How are we to get the victory over all our enemies? Joseph represents a more mature Christian. He could walk in the dark. He survived thirteen years of misfortune, in spite of his dreams, and then credited it all to the goodness and providence of God.

Triumphs of Faith. Daily Devotional by D.L. Moody

Now, how are we to get the victory over all our enemies? We live by faith. I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me (Galatians 2:20).

We get this life by faith, and become linked to Immanuel – God with us. If I have God for me, I am going to overcome. How do we gain this mighty power? By faith.

Because of their unbelief they were broken off, but thou by faith art standing (Romans 11:20a). The Jews were cut off on account of their unbelief. We were grafted in on account of our belief. We live by faith, and we stand by faith.

Next, we walk by faith. For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). The most immature Christians I know are those who want to walk by sight. They want to see how a thing is going to come out. That isn’t walking by faith at all. That’s walking by sight.

I think the people whose lives best represent this difference are Joseph and Jacob. Jacob was a man who walked with God by sight.

You remember his vow at Bethel: If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God (Genesis 28:20-21).

Remember how his heart revived when he saw the wagons Joseph sent him from Egypt? He sought after signs. He never could have gone through the temptations and trials that his son Joseph did.

Joseph represents a more mature Christian. He could walk in the dark. He survived thirteen years of misfortune, in spite of his dreams, and then credited it all to the goodness and providence of God.

The Overcoming Life

D.L. Moody
Are you an overcomer? Or, are you plagued by little sins that easily beset you? Even worse, are you failing in your Christian walk, but refuse to admit and address it? No Christian can afford to dismiss the call to be an overcomer.
He brings us to the place where He asks us to be our utmost for Him.

Let Us Keep To The Point

Oswald Chambers
Shut out every other consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only - My Utmost for His Highest. I am determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone.
Jesus expresses the essence of God in a way that we cannot misconstrue.

Magnifying Glass of Faith

Philip Yancey
In my spiritual journey as well as in my writing career I have long lingered in the margins, pondering unanswerable questions about the problem of pain, the conundrums of prayer, providence versus free will, and other such matters.
If we doubt God, or find him incomprehensible, unknowable, the very best cure is to gaze steadily at Jesus

Rosetta Stone

Philip Yancey
In the incarnation, God’s Son deliberately “handicapped” himself, exchanging omniscience for a brain that learned Aramaic phoneme by phoneme, omnipresence for two legs and an occasional donkey, omnipotence for arms strong enough to saw wood but too weak for self-defense.
The image of God is personhood, and personhood can function only in the context of relationships.

The Image of God

John MacArthur
What is the image of God? The Hebrew word for “image,” tselem, comes from a root that speaks of carving. It is the same word used to speak of graven images (Ex. 20:4). It almost seems to convey the idea that man was carved into the shape of God.
