Obedience As A Sign Of True Faith

John Eckhardt 40

Your obedience to God's direction and instruction for your life says that you trust and believe that He knows what's best for you, that you honor your commitment to follow Him, and that you understand that your perspective on overcoming life's challenges are limited.

Your active faith allows you to stay connected to and abiding in the vine.

Your active faith allows you to stay connected to and abiding in the vine. | John Eckhardt

As A Sign Of True Faith

We are exercising our confession of faith and commitment of love to God when we choose to obey Him. (See 1 John 5:2-3.) If we only say with our mouth that we believe in God yet do nothing of what He tells us, we are no different from the devils and demons who tremble and believe (James 2:17-19).

Active faith is what breeds the perfect environment for the supernatural blessing of God. When you have an active faith, you can receive supernatural healing, deliverance, divine warnings of danger up ahead, provision, and protection.

Your active faith allows you to stay connected to and abiding in the vine. Psalm 91 is a perfect example of one who is walking in the blessing of obedience.

Your obedience to God's direction and instruction for your life says that you trust and believe that He knows what's best for you, that you honor your commitment to follow Him, and that you understand that your perspective on overcoming life's challenges are limited. Anything less than obedience is just lip service.

In order to receive the blessing of God, you must demonstrate that He is Lord of your life. Obedience is the testing ground that proves that. He wants you to be His, and He wants to be yours.

He has life for you, but you have to give your broken-down life back to Him and follow His plan for success, prosperity, and peace.

If you are a parent, you may understand it better in these terms: You tell your child to stay close to the front yard. "Stay where I can see you," you say. If your child goes outside of the boundaries you set, how can you protect them if a car comes speeding up the street or a questionable person approaches them with a piece of candy? Obedience is a lifesaver in many cases.

Obedience says, "God, I trust You with my life. Therefore I will love You by keeping Your Word in my heart so that I will not sin against You and risk losing Your favor and blessing, because they are life and breath to me."

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind.
—Luke 10:27

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Magnifying Glass of Faith

Philip Yancey
In my spiritual journey as well as in my writing career I have long lingered in the margins, pondering unanswerable questions about the problem of pain, the conundrums of prayer, providence versus free will, and other such matters.
If we doubt God, or find him incomprehensible, unknowable, the very best cure is to gaze steadily at Jesus

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Rosetta Stone

Philip Yancey
In the incarnation, God’s Son deliberately “handicapped” himself, exchanging omniscience for a brain that learned Aramaic phoneme by phoneme, omnipresence for two legs and an occasional donkey, omnipotence for arms strong enough to saw wood but too weak for self-defense.
The image of God is personhood, and personhood can function only in the context of relationships.

The Image of God

John MacArthur
What is the image of God? The Hebrew word for “image,” tselem, comes from a root that speaks of carving. It is the same word used to speak of graven images (Ex. 20:4). It almost seems to convey the idea that man was carved into the shape of God.
The conflict is not between science and Scripture, but between the biblicist’s confident faith and the naturalist’s willful skepticism.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

The Truth About Science

John MacArthur
Unlike scientific theory, God’s Word is eternally unchanging. Unlike the opinions of man, its truth is revealed by the Creator Himself! It is not, as many suppose, at odds with science.
